Photocatalysis applied to public transport represents today one of the most advanced solutions for improving environmental hygiene, air quality, and onboard comfort. In this context, the intervention carried out on the Malpensa and Linate Shuttle buses—companies that are part of the AirPullman Group—fits in, as they have chosen PURETi technologies for treating the interior surfaces of their fleet for airport connections.
This choice stems from the need to ensure high standards of cleanliness and healthiness in high-traffic environments, where the constant turnover of passengers makes it essential to adopt solutions capable of acting continuously and durably. PURETi photocatalysis makes it possible to transform bus surfaces and seat fabrics into active elements, capable of contributing daily to the well-being of passengers on board.
AUNDE Velvet Seats Treated with IS VITAL ACTIVE Technology
The bus seats are made of AUNDE velvet with a custom design created exclusively for the fleet, enhanced with the IS VITAL ACTIVE nanotechnology treatment—a technology that also leverages PURETi photocatalysis to give the fabric advanced and permanent properties. The upholstery is self-cleaning thanks to photocatalytic action, highly water-repellent and dirt-resistant, resistant to humidity, and odor-free.
The treatment also enables environmental decontamination, contributing to onboard air purification and making surfaces easier to clean, even in cases of graffiti. From a hygienic standpoint, the treated velvet can eliminate up to 99.999% of bacteria, remaining free of microbes and dust mites, and offering a preventive action against allergies. These features are complemented by the high quality of the fabric, which preserves both aesthetics and comfort, combining perceived quality with technical performance—particularly important in a premium service such as airport connections.
Cabins treated with PURETi Coat 4.0 Visible Light
In addition to the fabrics, the interior surfaces of the Malpensa and Linate Shuttle buses are treated with PURETi Coat 4.0 Visible Light, a solution based on photocatalysis that is active even in the presence of natural light. The product is made from a synergistic blend of inorganic mineral oxides doped with silver, stabilized in different forms to ensure long-lasting effectiveness.
The application is carried out using electrostatic technology, which allows the formation of a homogeneous and invisible nanomesh capable of protecting surfaces without altering their appearance. Thanks to its high photocatalytic activity, the treatment helps reduce bacteria, odors, and contaminants, improving air quality even in enclosed and poorly ventilated environments. PURETi photocatalysis uses light to activate a natural oxidation process that neutralizes pollutants, ensuring a constant and continuous action over time.
Hygiene, Comfort, and Sustainability in Airport Transport
The AirPullman Group’s decision to adopt PURETi photocatalysis on the Malpensa and Linate Shuttle buses represents a concrete example of how technological innovation can be applied to mobility to enhance the travel experience and reduce environmental impact. The use of self-cleaning surfaces helps reduce water and detergent consumption for cleaning, providing measurable sustainability benefits while maintaining high hygiene and quality standards over the long term.
PURETi Photocatalysis: An Active Technology Serving Mobility
With this project, PURETi Italy confirms its role as a leading player in the development of photocatalytic solutions applied to high-traffic environments, demonstrating how photocatalysis can become a strategic tool to make public transport safer, healthier, and more comfortable every day.
